Whether you are approaching eligibility for Medicare Part D or you won’t be eligible for another year or two, there is a convenient, stress-free way to ensure you don’t miss your appropriate enrollment period. Through a fast, simple sign-up, you can get enrollment reminders that will alert you as you near Medicare Part D eligibility.

It’s smart to prepare for enrollment in a Medicare Part D plan early so you feel comfortable and confident when you are eligible to enroll. Depending on your circumstances, you can enroll during one of these three enrollment periods: the Annual Enrollment Period (AEP), which runs from October 15 through December 7 each year; the Initial Enrollment Period (IEP), which is the three calendar months before your 65th birthday, the month of your birthday and three months following your 65th birthday; or a Special Enrollment Period (SEP). Note that there is an exception if your birthday falls on the first day of any month; your 7-month Initial Enrollment Period begins and ends one month sooner. If you’re under 65 you are eligible to enroll in Medicare if you have a qualifying disability and receive a Social Security disability benefit. You will have a 7-month enrollment window that starts 3 months before your 25th month of receiving Social Security or Railroad Retirement Board disability benefits and ends 3 months after your 25th month of getting disability benefits.

Life can get hectic at times. It’s easy to forget something like enrolling in a Medicare Part D plan when you’ve got so many other things on your plate. Missing your appropriate enrollment time, however, can lead to a Part D Late Enrollment Penalty (LEP). This penalty is added on to your monthly premium for the length of time you have a Medicare Part D plan. Signing up for enrollment reminders can help you enroll on time and avoid a late enrollment penalty.
