It’s smart to prepare for enrollment in a Medicare Part D plan early so you feel
comfortable and confident when you are eligible to enroll. Depending on your circumstances,
you can enroll during one of these three enrollment periods: the Annual Enrollment
Period (AEP), which runs from October 15 through December 7 each year; the Initial
Enrollment Period (IEP), which is the three calendar months before your 65th birthday,
the month of your birthday and three months following your 65th birthday; or a Special
Enrollment Period (SEP). Note that there is an exception if your birthday falls
on the first day of any month, your 7-month Initial Enrollment Period begins and
ends one month sooner.
Life can get hectic at times. It’s easy to forget something like enrolling in a
Medicare Part D plan when you’ve got so many other things on your plate. Missing
your appropriate enrollment time, however, can lead to a Late Enrollment Penalty
(LEP). This penalty is added on to your monthly premium for the length of time you
have a Medicare Part D plan. You can help avoid this by signing up for enrollment reminders.
You may not be eligible to enroll in a prescription drug plan now, but we can alert
you when you are eligible. Sign up for Medicare Part D enrollment reminders today from SilverScript.
